The Spiritual Condition of America

Bible Reading:  I Corinthians 8

Key Verse: Verse 6 – “ But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

Key Words: But to us there is but one God

To many, truth is what they believe it to be.  A man asked three of his friends to tell him the meaning of truth.   One of his friends was a psychologist; he said truth is what one feels it to be.  Another one was an accountant; he said truth is what one needs it to be.  Another one was a lawyer; he said truth is what one can make it to be.

People today talk often about the concept of “my truth” and the opinion that truth is relative and completely determined by their point of view.

In a research poll completed a few years ago, several troubling facts came to light about where the American public is intellectually and spiritually.  The poll examined several different beliefs and found that, “most adults reject the notions of original sin, the existence of Satan, and salvation by God’s grace alone.”  It also discovered that “Americans tend to think that the core documents of the world’s major faiths, such as the Bible, the Koran and the Book of Mormon, are ‘different expressions of the same spiritual truth’ and that praying to the dead can reap personal benefits.”  It goes on to say, “Americans are nearly as likely to say that Jesus Christ sinned as to believe that He lived a sinless life.”

There has to be a final authority for which truth is.  My final authority is God's Word.  What is yours?

What to do:
Love God's Word, for unless you love the truth, you cannot know it.
