Decisions, Decisions

Bible Reading:  Genesis 4:1-10

Key Verse: Verse 5 - “But unto Cain and to his offering
he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

Key Words: But unto Cain and to his offering
he had not respect

All of life is full of decisions.  We go from one decision to another often giving little thought to the decisions we make.  But each decision is important and affects not only our life, but the lives of others.

From our Bible reading for today we see that Cain made a decision to bring an offering of fruit rather than an offering of blood which was a bad decision on his part.  One bad decision always leads to another bad decision.  Because of Cain’s jealousy of his brother Abel, he slew him.  First we make our decision and then our decisions make us.

Notice the results of Cain’s decision.

Genesis 4:11-14, “And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood

from thy hand;” (vs.11)  “When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.” (vs 12)  “And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.” (vs 13)  “Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.” (vs 14)

The words of Eleanor Roosevelt ring true:  “Our philosophy is not best expressed in words.  It is expressed in the choices one makes.  In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves.  The process never ends until we die.  And the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.”  How true!

                                                                                               Dr. Mike Rouse

What to do:

Make wise Godly decisions because first you make your decisions, then your decisions make you.
