Bible Reading: II Timothy 3:1-9
Key Verse: Verse 7 - “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Key Words: Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth
We live in an educated day. Years ago very few attended college, nowadays many do. Think of all the inventions over the years: weapons, ships, automobiles, space craft, aircraft, agriculture, and the list goes on and on.
Why do you know about Oliver Evans? Oliver not only built the first steam-driven dredge, he also built America’s first automobile. In fact, they were the very same machine. Christening it the Orukter Amphibolus (Amphibious Digger), he drove it from his workshop to the river in 1805.
To convince the public that his engine “could propel both land and water carriages,” Evans added wheels to the board of health’s dredging scow. The prototype Orukter steamed through the heart of Philadelphia before plunging into the Schuylkill River; once in the water, it easily outdistanced all other river craft. Sadly, this impressive debut failed to earn Evans enough financial backing to go on producing his land carriages. But he remained confident that the automobile would prevail one day. “The time will come,” he wrote, “when people will travel in stages [coaches] moved by steam engines from one city to another almost as fast as birds can fly – 15 to 20 miles an hour.” Man, have we come a long way in technology!!
I am reminded of Paul’s warning. We have been such a “learned” people that we are ignoring the real truth and that is…”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16. Now, that’s truth that will last for eternity!!

What to do:
✞ Remember, knowledge that takes you away from God isn’t true knowledge at all.
