The Lord's Constraining Love

Bible Reading:  II Corinthians 5:1-14

Key Verse: Verse 14 - “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:”

Key Words: For the love of Christ constraineth us

Constraining love is not restrictive.  The word doesn’t mean to restrain but to force out.  The word is a birthing word.  It means to force out that which is within.

When I think of Christ’s love for me, I come face to face with the realization that I can’t quit, I must press on.  After all He’s done for me, how can I do less than give Him my best?

The following was written by Margaret Rose Powers for the 1992 edition of Guidepost Magazine.  It illustrates so well why we can’t quit.

“One night I had a dream.  I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life.  In each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.  One was mine, and one was the Lord’s.  When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand, and to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints.  And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times in my life.  I asked the Lord about it, ‘Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You would walk with me all the way.  But I notice that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.  I do not understand why You left my side when I needed You the most.’  The Lord said, ‘My precious child, I never left you during your time of trial.  Where you see only one set of footprints, I was carrying you.’”

 I can’t quit; I won’t quit because of Christ’s constraining love.

What to do:

Don’t quit – be faithful.
