The altar of incense
(which is not to be confused with the brazen altar) sat in front of the curtain
that separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies.
God commanded the priests
to burn incense continually. The incense
was made of precious spices, stacte, onycha, galbanum, and frankincense.
The incense was symbolic
of prayer. God wanted His dwelling to be
a place where they could approach Him and pray to Him.
The principle is that we
are to be a people of prayer (pray without ceasing).
Early African converts to
Christianity were earnest and regular in their private devotions. Each one reportedly had a separate spot in
the thicket where he would pour out his heart to God. Over time the path to these places would
become well worn. As a result, if one of
those believers began to neglect prayer, it would soon be apparent to the
other. They would kindly remind the
negligent one, “Brother, the grass grows on your path.”
There is an old saying
that goes, “He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest
of the day.”
Pray!!
What to do:
✞Don’t
let the grass grow on your prayer path.
