Bible Reading: Mark 9:30-37
Key Verse: Verse 35 – “And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
Key Words: servant of all
As you read
the book of Mark, it becomes very obvious that Jesus came, not to be ministered
unto, but to minister. He came to be a
servant of all (Mark 9:35). A servant is one who does not care about
the events taking place around him; he only cares about pleasing his
master. So it was with Jesus, He cared
only about pleasing His Father.
Some have said
that Paul was the greatest of all missionaries.
While I understand what they are saying, I believe that Jesus was the
greatest.
Christ
was a missionary… in the house of Lazarus.
Christ
was a foreign missionary… when the Greeks came to Him.
Christ
was a city missionary… when he taught in Samaria.
Christ
was a Sunday School missionary… when He opened up the Scriptures and set men to
studying the Word of God.
Christ
was a missionary to the children… when He took them in His arms and blessed
them.
Christ
was a missionary to the poor… when He opened the eyes of the blind beggar.
Christ
was a missionary to the rich… when He opened the spiritual eyes of Zacchaeus.
Even
on the cross, Christ was a missionary to the thieves; and His last command on
this earth was a missionary commission (Acts
1:8).
Christ was the greatest of all the
missionaries, because He was the greatest of all the servants. Maybe we should follow both His lead and command,
and go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
What to
do:
✞Pray
and ask God to help you be a humble servant: in soul-winning; in prayer;
in giving; in caring; in compassion.
