Bible Reading: Malachi 3:1-12
Key
Verse: Verse 6 – “For
I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
Key Words: I
change not
One
of the most calming and reassuring statements in the Word of God is found in
our key verse, “For I am the LORD, I
change not.”
A.
W. Tozer points out that God cannot change, for all change must be in one of
three directions: 1) from better to
worse, 2) from worse to better, and 3) from one order of being to another. God’s perfection rules out all three of these
possibilities. God changes not!!
“The
law of mutation,” writes Tozer, “belongs to a fallen world, but God is
immutable, and in Him men of faith find at last eternal permanence.”
In
coming to God we need not wonder whether we will find Him in a receptive
mood. He is always receptive to misery
and need, as well as love and faith. He
does not keep office hours, nor does He set aside periods when He will see no
one. Neither does He change His mind
about anything. Today, this moment, He
feels toward each of us, toward babies, the sick, the fallen, and the sinful
exactly as He did when He sent His only begotten Son into the world to die for
all mankind.
Tozer
also says, “God never changes moods or cools off in His affections or loses
enthusiasm.” “For I am the LORD, I change not.”
