Spiritual Gifts - Mercy

Bible Reading: Romans 12:1-8

Key Verse: Verse 1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Key Words: by the mercies of God

Mercy is the showing of compassion.  Those who have the gift of mercy hate to see people in need or hurting.  Mercy doesn’t ask why: why people are hurting or why people are in need.

The truth is we all need mercy on occasion.  Reminds me of a little boy who one day came to his mother.  He said, “Mama, give me a peanut butter sandwich.”  Mother made him a peanut butter sandwich, but then he looked at it and smiled.  He said, “Mama, I asked you for a peanut butter sandwich and you put jelly on it too!”

You know what mercy is?  Mercy is when God not only gives you what you ask for, but He adds a little extra on it too.  He gives you more than you deserve.

A guy had his picture taken.  He was very upset with the photographer and very upset with the picture.  He rushed back into the photographer and said, “Look at this picture of me!  This picture does not do me justice!”  The photographer looked at him and said, “Mister, with a face like yours, you don’t need justice, you need mercy!”

That’s exactly the situation we are in.  We don’t need justice, but we need a whole lot of mercy.

Praise the Lord for those who have the gift of mercy!

What to do:

Show your mercy with some cheerfulness.
